Education: Minimum of an Associates degree in Computer Science or a related field required; Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of one year of directly related technical, professional experience required. Hiring manager has the discretion to substitute directly related professional experience for education.

KBR has an immediate need for an energetic and dynamic Associate Network Administrator to join the EROS Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) in support of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center ( near Sioux Falls, SD ( This position is an integral part of a diverse team, with primary responsibilities for support of EROS network environments.

The Associate Network Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer network. This includes planning, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. This person will also analyze and resolve end-user network-related hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training as required.

Candidates must have strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a teamwork emphasis. Candidates must also be able to integrate into a highly skilled Information Technology Team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Configure and perform diagnostics on network infrastructure components.
  • Perform hardware fault isolation and repair when necessary.
  • Understand and troubleshoot the following network layers, technologies, and system protocols: TCP/IP, UDP/IP, SNMP, SSL, HTTP, FTP, SSH, Syslog, DHCP, DNS, RDP, NETBIOS, IP routing, Ethernet, switched Ethernet, 802.11x, NFS, and VLANs.
  • Understand and maintain network security appliances (firewalls, etc.) and the concepts and procedures for network security.
  • Maintain and support wireless network access technologies, equipment, and tools.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ensure all systems and networks comply with USGS computer and network security requirements.
  • Ability to work well within a team, possessing a good team spirit, as well as demonstrated self-management and flexibility in taking on new challenges.
  • Scripting skills (programming languages, Python, PowerShell)


Other Preferred Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service skills. Able to identify and understand client needs to ensure a successful outcome to customer requests.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to plan and achieve a variety of tasks. Able to set priorities and deal with a number of issues and deadlines concurrently.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
