Director of Engineering and R&D Greater New York City area

Become our client s Director of Engineering and R&D - it's your chance to put some serious industry experience to use! Leverage your understanding of people, sensory technology, and equipment development as you take the reins for their Engineering Group.

Reporting to the CEO, this position is responsible for leading and developing four engineering sub-teams; research, mechanical, controls, and software. As an industry leader, you will have direct oversight over all engineering activities for $20MM worth of equipment manufactured at the facility. The role will be responsible for building out technology strategy and operational strategy together with the senior leadership team. This team engages in new product development, engineer-to-order, sustaining engineering, and research. It is a fast-paced and intelligent team that requires focused and driven leadership to guide R&D project work. The best candidates will have:

  • Past accomplishments identifying technological improvements in products and operational processes, ensuring this innovation is consistent with the strategic vision of the enterprise, assembling the resources to seize the opportunity, and driving the realization of the expected outcomes.
  • Experience managing engineering resources in low-volume, short timeline (typically less than one year), and high-mix (mechanical, controls, software challenges) environments.
  • Strong experience in equipment engineering, and understanding the interdisciplinary factors associated with mechatronics engineering.
  • A high level of focus, positive energy, leadership, and drive.

The client (located in Hawthorne, NY) develops inspection technologies that perform non-destructive integrity testing of high-risk packaging applications with high precision and reliability, supporting the food, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries. They are a growing design and intellectual property house with a culture of creating paradigm-shifting solutions. The engineering team is responsible for designing and supporting products that are the world's most sophisticated non-destructive container closure system inspection technologies.

The position's responsibilities are:

  • Managing and guiding the R&D team's performance
  • Leadership in research, engineering, and product development schedules
