THE ROLE:

AMD's Data Center Platform Engineering Group {DPEG} is designing, building and delivering innovative technology infrastructure enabling the digital world. The Staff Solutions Engineer will manage the lifecycle of firmware used in infrastructure (chassis, racks, etc.) controllers, from design through sustaining. This engineer will be responsible for working as a member of a team of solutions and systems engineers to efficiently understand customer requirements and to participate in the design, implementation, test, and release of these products. This individual will drive evaluation and adoption of solutions enabling integration of infrastructure products into customer datacenter operations.

THE PERSON:

This role requires an individual with strong engineering skills, deep understanding of infrastructure technologies, and experience in software development and design of computer servers. The ideal candidate will also have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and be able to work independently under aggressive timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and other technical documentation.
  • Perform system concept evaluations and sample builds for taking measurements (benchmark, power measures, etc.)
  • Develop Linux / BASH shell scripts, Perl and Python packages to support testing and deployment activities in different environments.
  • Deploy and provision OS and software stacks on server platforms.
  • Support triage and root cause analysis of complex system issues.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Multiple years' experience in Application / System development and design of computer servers or associated equipment that will be deployed in racks for datacenter usage.
  • Deep knowledge with server products, including devices and technologies such as server BIOS, OS drivers (both Linux and Windows), BMC (utilize ipmi standards and OEM specific commands), , GPU stress/benchmark tools, rack remote/ management tools.
  • Knowledge of cloud / big data software stack model and knowledge of provisioning / deployment of open standard software stacks.
  • Working knowledge with modern network technology: Cisco Nexus, Arista, Quanta, SFP+ Twinax, Fiber Optics, Cisco CDP.
  • Experience with scripting/automation languages: BASH, SQL, Python, Ruby.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
