Job Details

Tesla Energy is seeking a skilled Test Hardware Controls Engineer to design and develop automated test systems for Energy R&D. This role is integral in supporting Industrial, Residential, and Charging product development by delivering innovative test solutions. You will collaborate with world-class electrical, mechanical, and software engineering to build robust, automated test systems that drive Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.

Responsibilities
  • Design robust test equipment for Tesla Energy R&D to support product development and test automation
  • Develop Python-based scripts for hardware controls, data aggregation, and analytic tools specific to each product
  • Specify components for hardware automation and define Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Create and update electrical panel schematics, system/panel layouts
  • Utilize Altium to design and develop PCBs used in automated test equipment
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure test systems meet all electrical, mechanical, and software requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering technicians and contract manufacturers to build, validate, and check controls wiring including for PLC, I/O, and DAQ hardware
  • Integrate firmware with PCBs and hardware to ensure seamless test operation
  • Maintain strong communication and collaboration with design, firmware, and cross-functional teams
  • Troubleshoot issues related to test automation, hardware, and infrastructure, ensuring continuous improvement and efficiency

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware automation, system design, or related fields
  • Proficiency in Python for hardware control, data collection, and building analysis tools
  • Experience with Altium for PCB design, layout, and schematic capture
  • Strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals and electro-mechanical system design
  • Experience with electrical equipment selection, hardware interface protocols (SPI, I2C, UART), and automation controls
  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation tools such as PLCs, motion controllers, or DAQs

      $120,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
