POSITION DESCRIPTION
HGL has a position open for an Environmental Engineer II / Civil Engineer II to support our Boston, Massachusetts Service Center. The Civil/Environmental Engineer will provide civil/environmental engineering, remediation, and construction services to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients.
This position offers the opportunity to work remotely in the Boston/New England area. Candidates must reside in (or be willing to relocate to) EPA Region 1 states (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, or VT). This role requires some on-site fieldwork in New England.
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
- The execution and evaluation of environmental remediation and/or construction field tasks and related office work, including work plan preparation and remedial design support.
- Treatment plant operations and maintenance.
- Data collection/environmental sampling.
- The reviewing, interpretation, and application of environmental regulations.
- Data analysis, calculations, and the interpretation of field and analytical data.
- The preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates.
- Managing project schedules and budgets.
- Client interaction and the supervision of field crews.
- Implementing data quality control processes.
- Reviewing and authoring technical reports.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- The Environmental Engineer II position requires a minimum of a BS or BA degree in a field related to Civil or Environmental Engineering (e.g., Chemical or Geologic).
- Four or more years of experience executing the responsibilities and duties outlined above.
- Must have experience in environmental remediation, authoring technical reports, and reviewing and interpreting environmental data.
- Remedial system design support, implementation, and operation experience is a plus. Experience required may be job or location specific and may include specific experience in such things as oversight of environmental remediation field activities or work on environmental construction projects.
- The ability to demonstrate a history of responsibility, innovation, motivation and creativity.
- Strong project management, organizational, cost tracking, technical writing, and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of appropriate methodologies for groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment sampling at CERCLA and RCRA sites.
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Competency with MS Office including MS Project.
- Must possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment.
- The ability to conduct some travel, overtime, and moderate physical work.
Preferred Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required
- Master of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working on DoD, DoE, and /or USEPA projects under RCRA or CERCLA regulatory programs.
- Skilled in AutoCAD software.

The salary range for this position ranges from $54,135 - $90,270. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills. If your desired salary falls outside of this range, we hope you'll apply as there may be other positions that better align.
