Purpose of the Position:

Plans, designs, develops, and manages an organization's databases to ensure efficient data storage, access, and security. Collaborates with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases that meet requirements and organizational needs. Writes queries, stored procedures and functions for database development. Monitors databases' performance, scalability, and security and modifies procedures to optimize database designs. Evaluates existing database design to determine necessary updates, performance tuning, and integration requirements. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of database technologies and solid coding and computer system skills. Incumbent s work is generally independent and collaborative in nature, while contributing to moderately complex aspects of a project.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day operations (includes monitoring and maintenance, problem investigation and resolution, backup creation and maintenance, database optimization and tuning, etc.).
  • Develop Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) data pipelines in AWS using AWS Glue, DMS, Step
  • Functions, Lambda, and Athena technologies.
  • Perform daily monitoring, administration, repair, and maintenance related to data
  • pipelines, databases, AWS and related technologies.
  • Responsible for investigating/troubleshooting database issues as needed.
  • Monitor production SSIS packages, troubleshoot failures, and re-run as necessary or escalate for additional development, assist with production deployments/changes, and cross-train to help with operational data work.
  • Develop reporting solutions using custom tables and views normalizing disparate data
  • Conduct iterative performance tuning of database environments, ETL processes, and SQL queries as needed.
  • Develop high-quality database solutions and procedures, and scripts for data migration.
  • Use T-SQL to develop and implement procedures and functions.
  • Review and interpret ongoing business report requirements.
  • Analyze existing SQL queries for performance improvements and suggest new queries.
  • Provide timely scheduled management reporting.
  • Investigate exceptions regarding asset movements.
  • Independently analyze and correct issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Perform analyses to drive business decisions and optimize expense/efforts for database enhancements and support.
  • Provide statistical analysis to develop, test, and optimize databases to their full potential.
  • Assist in testing efforts for database use.
  • Create regular reporting summarizing key metrics and trends to key team members and Management.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage concurrent projects, demonstrate initiative, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Drive results and leverage past experiences to improve the environment and related processes.
  • Coordinate with other departments to update and integrate processes, as necessary.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure integration and performance expectations are met as well as allow for future flexibility to meet changing business needs.
  • Responsible for performing SQL development and SSIS/SSAS/SSRS development.
  • Write advanced T-SQL code, including complex but efficient queries, stored procedures, SSIS packages.
  • Collaborate with other developers to facilitate the creation of high-performing data-centric
  • Work closely with the DBA/development team to provide support for database objects (stored procedures/triggers/views) and perform code reviews.
  • Analyze user requirements and produce specifications for various database applications and
  • Perform automation of manual tasks.
  • Periodic in-person attendance and travel as requested.
  • Regular, reliable attendance during normal business hours.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university with a major in computer science or similar engineering or technical eld, or in lieu of education, four years of experience developing, scaling, and performing daily operations for an enterprise s SQL databases. PLUS:
  • Four or more years of experience performing database engineering work demonstrating
  • one or more of the following competencies:
  • Data conversion, integration, migration, and mapping.
  • Database modeling and monitoring.
  • Extract, Transform and Load functions.
  • Database backup and recovery processes.
  • Database query optimization
  • Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Habemco (e.g., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (STEM/OPT), TN visa.)

Preferred:

  • Master of Science degree from an accredited university with a major in computer science or similar engineering or technical eld.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to interface directly with program management and development teams.
  • Ability to handle large datasets using a database query language (e.g., SQL), R, Python, or another similar programming language.
  • Excellent understanding of T-SQL programming and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of SQL Server Development, SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
  • Strong knowledge of Database/SQL performance tuning in a high concurrency environment.
  • Excellent understanding of HTML, JavaScript, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Microsoft DBA Certification is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Power BI is a plus.
  • Solid hands-on experience in creating Stored Procedures, Functions, Tables, Cursors, Hash tables, and handling large data types.
  • Improve performance of T-SQL stored procedures.
  • Good knowledge of data normalization, modelling, and design.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to trace issues to the root source and create RCAs.
  • Ability to deliver clean, documented, and testable code and follow CI/CD methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of large, relational databases and data structures.
  • Strong understanding of ETL concepts.
  • Familiarity with Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services integration with SQL.
  • Proficient in standard business and database software, including MS Office, MS Access, and SSMS.
  • Clear, effective written and verbal technical communication skills applicable to diversely
  • specialized stakeholders at all levels of a finance organization.
