ob Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Vertica L3 Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the advanced management, optimization, and support of Vertica databases in a production environment. As an L3 DBA, you will be the final escalation point for resolving complex technical issues and driving performance enhancements for mission-critical databases.

Key Responsibilities:

- Database Management: Administer, configure, and manage Vertica databases in multi-node cluster environments, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.

- Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance through advanced tuning techniques, including query optimization, resource management, and workload balancing.

- Backup and Recovery: Implement and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and system availability.

- Security Management: Manage database security, including user roles, permissions, encryption, and adherence to compliance requirements.

- Incident and Problem Management: Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical production issues, ensuring minimal downtime and quick recovery.

- Capacity Planning: Analyze system growth trends and plan for future capacity needs, including storage, memory, and compute resources.

- Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline routine database administration tasks such as monitoring, backups, and maintenance.

- Cluster Management: Manage Vertica database clusters, including node additions, removals, and configuration tuning for large-scale deployments.

- Consultation: Collaborate with developers, architects, and other IT teams to design scalable and efficient database solutions.

- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation on database architecture, configurations, operational procedures, and incident reports.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

- 5+ years of relevant experience managing Vertica databases in a production environment.

- Extensive experience with Vertica architecture, including K-safety, projections, partitions, and resource pools.

- Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and workload balancing for Vertica.

- Strong knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, including snapshot-based backups and DR.

- Hands-on experience with Linux systems administration as it relates to Vertica environments.

- Proficiency in writing SQL and Python/Shell scripts for database automation and monitoring.

- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Vertica Management Console and third-party solutions.

Preferred Skills:

- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for resolving complex database issues.

- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple high-priority tasks.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional teamwork.

- Experience with cloud deployments (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure) for Vertica clusters.

Certifications:

- Vertica Certified Professional or similar Vertica-related certifications are highly preferred.
