Overview

Team Overview: The Security Automation team is situated within the Advanced Cyber Initiatives branch and Information Security Division of Navy Federal's Security Department. The Security Department is responsible for the monetary safety of its members and employees. The Security Automation team's primary responsibilities are to improve operational agility by streamlining core processes and automating with intelligence allowing better decisions and faster response. Improve the effectiveness of security processes by implementing Security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) solutions that accelerate outcomes and unlocks capacity for other risk buy-down activities.

The Summer Associate will work in a flexible hybrid manner or remote based upon location. Responsibilities will include collection and correlation of data, creation of key metrics for the team, and generation of an automated, comprehensive gains report that highlights the work being done by the security automation team, among other work. It will be essential for the team member in this position be a strong data storyteller, be a quick learner to understand the data and connect details to the bigger picture, identify trends, and make recommendations to improve results.

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2025 and ending in August 2025. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2025 or later.

Responsibilities
  • Perform data collection and analysis
  • Identify and coordinate the automation of data collection
  • Support the development, maintenance and management of reporting, dashboards, data models and analytical results.
  • Retrieve, analyze, and validate data and test accuracy of reported results
  • Work with project leads to understand requirements and propose key analytics solutions to drive effective decision-making and influence business objectives
  • Become integrated into and participate in the day-to-day strategy, analysis, and operations of the team

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science
  • Familiarity with Objectives and Key Results
  • Experience with research, analysis, and data manipulation
  • Familiarity with the creation and reporting of key metrics
  • Experience using data and analytic tools such as: PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, Python, R, or Tableau
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and think outside of the box
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
  • Basic knowledge of Automation and SOAR platforms is a plus
