Summary

The Software Engineer - Developer Advocate is responsible for planning, responding and representing the design system product to developer audiences. The Developer Advocate's goal is to drive design system adoption by helping teams plan for and overcome technical adoption hurdles. Focusing on the technical side of design system, they will coordinate release schedules and assign tasks to developers while the Design System Product Manager will maintain working relationships with client functional areas outside of IT. Works together with systems analysts and software engineers to determine the best methods to achieve the projects objectives. Receives general supervision from the Engineering Manager and collaborates with the Design System Product Manager to achieve objectives.

Major Duties
  • Translates business requirements into technical stories for design system development team
  • Coordinates delivery schedules and assigns project tasks within internal team
  • Manages and maintains backlogs/support intakes
  • Interfaces with teams' Scrum Masters for delivery planning and coordination
  • Provides consultation to application teams to overcome technical issues
  • Helps with internal and external documentation
  • Supports internal development team on onboarding and troubleshooting technical problems
  • Drives product adoption through connections and follow up with technical teams

Knowledge/Skills
  • Strong technical expert with in-depth knowledge in software engineering best practices (development workflow, engineering standards)
  • Strong understanding of business practices and their application to effective product delivery
  • Skilled in front-end technology (React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS)
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Effective use of collaborative/communication tools
  • Highly flexible, adaptable to change and comfortable with ambiguity

Experience Required
  • 5+ years of experience in digital product focusing on software engineering and advocating software products
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Experience with project feasibility, definition requirements, design and/or project leadership
  • Experience working with a cross-functional team or large-scale software development lifecycle, preferably in an agile environment, is desired
