POSITION DESCRIPTION
HGL has a position open for a Senior Civil Engineer / Environmental Engineer to support our work in the Boston, Massachusetts area. The Senior Engineer will provide environmental engineering, remediation, and construction services to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients.
This position offers the opportunity to work remotely in the Boston/New England area. Candidates must reside in (or be willing to relocate to) EPA Region 1 states (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, or VT). This role requires some on-site fieldwork in New England.
Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
- Designing, managing, and conducting environmental field investigations and remediation projects at hazardous waste sites, both in New England and nationwide.
- Supervising and supporting environmental and engineering projects and tasks, involving the characterization and remediation of impacted soil, sediment, and groundwater. Construction duties may include oversight of civil and environmental aspects related to environmental remediation projects or the construction of soil and groundwater treatment systems.
- Preparing technical proposals and cost estimates.
- Managing project schedules and budgets.
- Client interaction and the supervision of field crews.
- Data analysis and the interpretation of field and analytical data.
- Implementing data quality control processes.
- Reviewing and authoring technical reports.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- The Senior Engineer position requires a minimum of a BS or BA degree in a field related to Environmental Studies or Construction such as Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Geological Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience executing the responsibilities and duties outlined above.
- A PE certification or ability to obtain one.
- Strong project management, organizational, cost tracking, technical writing, and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of appropriate methodologies for groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment sampling at CERCLA and RCRA sites.
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Competency with MS Office including MS Project.
- Demonstrated skills in the design and implementation of remediation/construction projects.
Preferred Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required
- MS in a related field.
- PMP certification.
- Experience with Primavera.

The salary range for this position ranges from $86,312 - $153,850. This position's final salary can be impacted by various factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills. If your desired salary falls outside of this range, we hope you'll still apply as there may be other positions that better align.
