This role requires a strong technical background in mainframe systems, COBOL program analysis, and large-scale application modernization, along with experience in validating converted specifications and programs.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in mainframe-to-modern technology transitions, with the ability to deep dive into COBOL applications, assess migration feasibility, and work closely with modernization teams to ensure accuracy and scalability. While knowledge of Java or .NET is a plus, this role primarily focuses on analyzing, understanding, and validating legacy COBOL applications during the modernization process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on COBOL and mainframe systems, providing deep technical validation for application modernization efforts.
  • Analyze, assess, and document existing COBOL applications, data structures, and business logic to support modernization.
  • Work closely with business analysts, architects, and modernization teams to validate converted specifications and ensure functional accuracy.
  • Evaluate and recommend AI-driven analysis tools and other modernization solutions to optimize the conversion process.
  • Address complex mainframe-related queries from stakeholders and provide expert guidance on large-scale migration strategies.
  • Collaborate with Java/.NET development teams to bridge the gap between legacy and modern applications.
  • Participate in deep-dive discussions on modernization strategies, including performance optimization, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Validate and optimize migration methodologies from COBOL to modern platforms (Java, .NET, or cloud-based solutions).
  • Ensure that the modernization approach aligns with industry best practices and business needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in mainframe development and modernization, with deep expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
  • Strong knowledge of mainframe application architecture and modernization strategies.
  • Experience validating converted mainframe applications to ensure accuracy and performance.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven program analysis tools for mainframe-to-modern platform transitions.
  • Ability to analyze and document complex legacy systems and business processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience handling difficult mainframe-related technical queries.
  • Experience working in multiple domains (Financial Services, Logistics, Healthcare, Insurance, etc.).
  • Knowledge of healthcare policies and financial services regulations is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to work with clients, architects, and development teams.
  • Experience with cloud-based modernization approaches (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Java or .NET is beneficial but not mandatory for this role.
