Job Duties

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of IT Academy Director. The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center provides access to higher education, workforce training and programming, innovative industry services, and technologically advanced state-of-the-art facilities and learning labs that include comprehensive fiscal management, operational and supportive services, community outreach and engagement, and extensive collaborations. These components work together to support the organization's mission of advancing Southern Virginia's economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration. The purpose of the IT Academy Director position is to ensure the sustainability and growth of the IT Academy through engagement with industry, community, academic stakeholders and SVHEC staff. The position provides extensive administrative and managerial oversight of staff and operations of one of the agency's revenue-generating units.

Minimum Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of curriculum development and teaching and learning principles for adult learners; Extensive working knowledge of project management with proven ability to manage and oversee multiple projects simultaneously; Extensive work experience as a technical trainer using hands-on activities; Extensive working knowledge of IT infrastructure hardware, concepts and best practices; Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions; Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot IT infrastructure issues; Demonstrated ability to lead department-level goal setting and ensure alignment with strategic planning; Knowledgeable and capable of providing effective budget management and oversight; Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with diverse audiences; Demonstrated ability to provide supervision to subordinates; Proficiency using word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications and Must possess a high-level of attention to detail. High school graduate or equivalent.

Any one or combination of the following IT certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Cloud Essentials+, Linux+; Cisco certifications; Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certifications including Linux Essentials, Security Essentials, Web Development Essentials, LPIC-1, LPIC-2, LPIC-3; Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS certifications.
