Job Description: AI Program Manager / Architect
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates based in Colorado), Denver CO
About the Role
Seeks a dynamic AI Program Manager to lead the development and implementation of a statewide AI framework. This pivotal role resides within the Chief Data Office, with a mission to harness the power of AI to enhance service delivery, operational efficiency, and citizen engagement across government agencies.
The ideal candidate will possess a rare combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership skills. They will be instrumental in shaping the responsible use of AI technologies, driving innovation, and ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
AI Strategy and Leadership
- Define and champion a comprehensive AI vision and roadmap aligned with state priorities.
- Collaborate with agency stakeholders to identify AI opportunities that improve efficiency, service delivery, and citizen engagement.
- Foster a culture of innovation and accountability in AI adoption across state agencies.
Technology and Product Development
- Partner with product managers and engineers to develop and deploy cutting-edge AI solutions.
- Stay at the forefront of advancements in AI, including Generative AI (GenAI), and guide its application in government contexts.
- Provide technical expertise in AI technology selection, data governance, and product management.
AI Governance and Compliance
- Establish processes for evaluating, approving, testing, and monitoring AI initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to state and federal laws, including privacy, security, and ethical considerations.
- Mitigate risks such as bias and inequity in AI systems through robust governance practices.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government leaders, legal counsel, vendors, and community representatives.
- Facilitate cross-agency collaboration and knowledge-sharing on AI initiatives.
- Advocate for responsible AI practices through training, education, and awareness programs.
Champion Responsible AI
- Promote ethical AI principles, including fairness, transparency, and accountability.
- Ensure human oversight of AI initiatives to maintain integrity and trust.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in AI, including machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
- Proven leadership experience in defining and implementing strategic technology initiatives.
- Experience in program or product management, particularly with AI-driven solutions.
- Public sector experience is a strong plus.

- Expertise in AI technologies, ethical considerations, and governance frameworks.
- Strong strategic and critical thinking abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
Additional Requirements
- Background Verification: Successful candidates must pass state, county, and federal criminal record checks, SSN Name Search, and a Global Monitor Check.
- Security Training: Candidates must complete mandatory information security training within 30 days of the start date and annually thereafter.
