Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Job Location: Durham, NC
Job Duration: 6+ months (Possibilities of Extension)
Shift: Shift--Monday-Friday, 8 AM 5 PM
Job Description Summary:
The Technician Assistant BioDevices is a key position in the development and validation of devices for the animal health industry.
This position will provide support to VMRD Engineering by building, testing, and updating machines under development. Their work will support new configurations of the NXT Innovoject, development of benchtop veterinary equipment, and new features for devices in the hands of customers. The individual suited for the role will have good hands-on skills and the ability to communicate with others in-person and by email.
The Technician Assistant will:
Assist simple tests for one or more projects, monitoring stands, taking data, or making observations
Maintain, calibrate, or otherwise upkeep equipment according to a documented process
Use work instructions and methods
With support, assemble and adjust new device configurations or test fixtures
Complete documentation and summarize findings related to a requested task
Upkeep lab space as needed offering improvement ideas where needed
Organizational Relationships
This position will be working in a matrix organization and will interact closely with multidisciplinary teams, which include Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Customer Service and Quality Control. Other members of the team to which the role belongs include Reliability and Test Engineering.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: AS or BS in Engineering (preferred: Mechanical) recent graduate
Preferred: AS or BS in Engineering (preferred: Mechanical) 1 to 2 years technician experience
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Independent critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making
Good communication skills and teamwork capabilities
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for data collection
Hand and power tool use
Preferred:
Light machining: drill press, mills, bandsaws
Some experience supporting reading and review of work orders, schematics, and CAD
