PURPOSE OF SYSTEMS FOCUS:
This is a non-management administration and maintenance position to provide support for centralized services provided to endpoints and storage. Primary responsibility will be directed toward application services and data center infrastructure including servers, operating systems, software and associated equipment by providing proactive network service support and troubleshooting analysis for the environment. Participates in the administration, support and maintenance of critical services application and the training of the end users.
PURPOSE OF NETWORK FOCUS:
The job focus was established for the purpose/s of assisting in coordinating networking, voice, and data communications for the district to ensure the flow of information among all district computers and staff members; and providing technical information for problem solving related to core network infrastructure and devices such as switches, routers, wireless access points, telecommunications, and cable plant; provides management for subsets of major projects or small projects. This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: The Network Engineer II performs intermediate-level network support tasks and participates in the full range of support tasks on existing and the implementation of new systems. It is distinguished from the Network Engineer I by the performance of a broader range of duties and by greater technical knowledge and expertise, which enable the incumbent to resolve problems of a recurring or systemic nature.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SYSTEMS ENGINEER FOCUS:
- Administrates operations, security, software installation and upgrades to data center services and server administration for the Windows Server networks and Active Directory.
- Provide administrative support for Microsoft Terminal Services.
- Administrates Office 365 platform.
- Administrates mail archiving services.
- Administrates Group Policies for users and computers.
- Administrates Printing environment and deploy printers through enterprise services.
- Administrates VMware environment using vSphere.
- Support Disaster Recovery strategies and routine testing.
- Administrates user access and security to the network and email systems according to established practices and direction.
- Provides central management of systems to update district workstations with all Microsoft updates and third-party updates.
- Administrates and support work order and password management systems.
- Administrates enterprise imaging services and perform remote image deployment.
- Receive and troubleshoot user help desk calls through successful resolution.
- Evaluate and analyze help desk incident reports for recurring problems.
- Capable of working alone as backup support to the Senior Systems Administrator.
- Supports documentation of changes and modifications to the Data Center environment.
- Serves as an information technology resource to other KCPS business locations.
- Carries out established corporate policies regarding acquisition and use of hardware and software.
- Makes recommendations regarding hardware and software to meet identified business needs.
- Assists with the planning for future corporate growth in technology areas.
- Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required at the direction of management

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED OF SYSTEMS ENGINEER FOCUS:
- Significant experience with local area network, TCP/IP, computer system hardware and software, DNS and DHCP.
- Must be able to utilize conventional Active Directory tools including scripting that supports user and computer environments.
- Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft products such as SMS, SCCM, MOM, SCOM, WSUS, FEP, Exchange Management Console and Power Shell.
- Must be capable of deploying scripts to manage Active Directory.
- Experience in network systems analysis and maintaining network security.
- Understand data communication protocols and methodologies.
- Significant experience with e-mail systems (MS Outlook).
- Experience, from a user's perspective, of MS Outlook and MS Office Suite
- PC operating system technical skills.
- MCSA, MCSE or MCTS.
- Strong interpersonal skills: possesses a customer satisfaction and customer-friendly mentality with the ability to train both inexperienced & experienced users in the use of technology.
- Capable of hosting vendor(s) and associated meetings when they are onsite.

- Collaborates with ITC personnel for the purpose of meeting end-user needs with the best practice solutions and actively work to build a strong network environment throughout the district to better serve our customers in meeting their business objectives.
- Coordinates and supervises vendors and contractors hired to install networks; monitors compliance with bid and accepted construction practices for the purpose of architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable and stable technology infrastructure.
- Creates documentation, design and construction of all school and administrative networks and their inter-connection for the purpose of architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable and stable technology infrastructure.
- Develops standards for network attachment, network security, construction materials, and practices to establish orderly infrastructure for maintenance and upgrade control, and to protect the computer environment from corruption for the purpose of architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable and stable technology infrastructure.
- Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot data communication devices, including wireless access points, wireless clients, switches, routers, and modems without requiring additional supervision for the purpose of architecting, delivering and maintaining a reliable and stable technology infrastructure.
- Troubleshoots, and repairs malfunctions in existing network to ensure minimal user impact from equipment failures; monitors networks performance; troubleshoots tier two network performance for the purpose of providing exceptional customer service that exceeds their expectations.
- Participates as a district resource in large-scale project implementations in providing technical support and other duties as assigned for the purpose of implementing key initiatives associated with the district's strategic Technology Plan.
- Serves as an information resource for the IT department to schools, businesses, and the community for the purpose of actively working to build healthy partnerships throughout the district to better serve our customers in meeting their business objectives.

- Significant experience with LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, computer system hardware and software, DNS and DHCP, Active Directory, Group Policies and software deployment.

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a minimum of four years experience in a position with similar duties and responsibilities.
- Minimum four (4) year's technical experience.
- MCSE 2003 or MCITP certification candidate. Certification could be acquired within 12 months after hire.
- Avaya certification candidate. Certification could be required within 12 months after hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum five (5) year's data center technical experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server 2003 and Server 2008 or later.
- Active MCSE 2003 or MCITP certification.
- Active networking certification.
