Job Description


The R&D Engineer II is responsible for applying a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to broad areas of assignments relating to the generation, development, and design of new ideas and concepts to enable innovation for greater capabilities and performance of agricultural, municipal, and construction equipment. This position will receive specific instruction, in addition to general direction of key objectives, to complete essential duties.

  • Provides a contributor role in next level idea generation, research and development, and concept development for greater innovation.
  • Designs mechanical products and the application of hydraulics, electronics, and software to them.
  • Applies sound analytical methods in the evaluation and application of mechanical components, materials, hydraulics, pneumatic, electrical actuators, and sensors with general direction.
  • Investigates new or disruptive technologies and concepts and validates if and how they can be used in our industry.

Productivity / Job Knowledge 20%

  • Modifies machine design to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Assists with placement and validation of prototype equipment and performs customer follow up on prototypes and LPB's documenting customer pains and gains.
  • With general direction, develops test requirements for proof of concept through feasibility. Reviews and analyzes test data to validate concept.
  • Develops marketing requirements and technical specifications based on technical information or customer requirements with general direction.
  • Ensures that products perform as intended and meet performance and technical expectations of the company and end users.
  • Researches, analyzes, and monitors technological advancements so that market opportunities may be capitalized on and the effects of competitive activity may be minimized.
  • With general direction and specific instructions on complex problems, use knowledge of key objectives to design systems, components, and processes (Analytical Methods).

Requirements

Qualifications and Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering with two (2) to five (5) years of experience in R&D, product development, or design.
  • High level of solid modeling skills desirable. Experience in Simulation (FEA, CFD) desirable.
  • Strong computer skills, including solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred), ERP, data analysis, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Oral and written communication skills appropriate for working with all levels of the company, customers, and suppliers.

The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet. Employee may be exposed to shop environment while distributing documents to shop area. When on shop floor, employee will be required to wear safety glasses at all times, steel-toed footwear and ear protection when job demands presence in areas outside safety zones and gloves when handling material. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration, and occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the plant shop environment is moderately loud. Position involves working indoors and outdoors with some exposure to weather conditions.
