Job Title: Cloud Data Migration - Data Engineer
Location: Remote
Job Summary:
The Oracle Data Cloud to Google BigQuery Migration Data Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and executing the migration of large-scale data assets from Oracle Data Cloud environments to Google BigQuery. This role will ensure high data integrity, optimal performance, and seamless integration between legacy systems and modern cloud data warehousing solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Oracle data architectures, cloud migration methodologies, and Google BigQuery.
The Oracle Data Cloud to Google BigQuery Migration Data Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and executing the migration of large-scale data assets from Oracle Data Cloud environments to Google BigQuery. This role will ensure high data integrity, optimal performance, and seamless integration between legacy systems and modern cloud data warehousing solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Oracle data architectures, cloud migration methodologies, and Google BigQuery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Migration Strategy & Planning:
- Analyze existing Oracle Data Cloud architectures and design migration strategies to Google BigQuery.
- Define migration scope, timelines, and deliverables while mitigating risks associated with data conversion and integration.
- Collaborate with data architects, DBAs, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment with business and technical requirements.
- Design & Development:
- Develop ETL/ELT pipelines for extracting data from Oracle Data Cloud, transforming it as required, and loading it into Google BigQuery.
- Create custom scripts and automation workflows (using languages like Python, SQL, or shell scripting) to facilitate data migration.
- Optimize data models and schemas for BigQuery to support high-performance analytics.
- Implementation & Execution:
- Set up and configure Google BigQuery environments, including dataset creation, partitioning, and clustering.
- Execute data migration activities with minimal downtime and ensure thorough testing and validation of migrated data.
- Monitor migration processes, troubleshoot issues, and perform post-migration performance tuning.
- Data Quality & Governance:
- Implement robust data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes during and after migration.
- Ensure that data security, privacy, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) are maintained throughout the migration process.
- Document migration processes, technical decisions, and lessons learned for ongoing support and future migrations.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (data engineering, analytics, IT operations) to ensure smooth integration and hand-off.
- Provide technical expertise and best practices on Oracle Data Cloud, Google BigQuery, and cloud migration methodologies.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in cloud data warehousing and migration tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5 to 7+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud migration, or related roles, with specific experience in Oracle environments and Google BigQuery.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python (or similar scripting languages), and data transformation tools.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Data Cloud, Oracle databases, and understanding of legacy data architectures.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred) and tools such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Dataflow.
- Proven ability to design and implement end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines and automate data workflows.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or equivalent cloud certifications.
- Experience with data modeling, data governance, and advanced analytics.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Prior experience with large-scale data migrations and performance tuning in cloud environments.
