THE OPPORTUNITY
Dillard's is looking for an experienced System Administrator who is highly motivated, self-sufficient, and eager to learn new skills that will be applied throughout various work assignments. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and efficiency of the database and the surrounding ecosystem. You will also work with a team of database administrators to ensure that the database is always available and performing at an optimal level.
As our ideal candidate, you will be well-versed in Teradata, Python, BASH, and Korn Shell. You will be inquisitive, and eager to learn and share knowledge with your team. You will value collaboration, but also be able to work well independently.
THE TEAM
This role is on our Business Intelligence (BI) team which is responsible for the data and delivery of business reports to many partners within Dillard's. These reports are a critical part of our business, and we rely on BI to provide accurate and timely data. The BI team is the "SIRI" of Dillard's. The work is fast-paced and never dull. Working on this team will allow you to explore many areas of the business.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Be responsible for the installation and maintenance of applications
- Be responsible for disaster recovery documentation
- Work with other teams to derive solutions
- Manage service requests from IBM and Teradata
- Maintain and monitor a database backup solution
- Manage common vulnerabilities and exposures
- Participate in on-call rotation
THE MUST-HAVES
- Experience in database administration
- Familiarity with AIX and/or Linux operating systems
- Experience scripting in both BASH and Korn Shell
- Self-sufficient, ability to utilize critical thinking to identify resources to complete a project
- Ability to research to identify potential solutions
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR
THE NICE-TO-HAVES
- GitLab or GitHub exposure
- Web application development experience
- Experience with Python
- Experience with Java
WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU'LL
- Be able to independently execute/research database object creations and demonstrate a general understanding of the Teradata architecture.
- Be learning the platforms that you maintain, such as Cognos and Infosphere Datastage.
- Become comfortable with documenting procedures and policies.
WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU'LL
- Have the foundation to create utility scripts on both AIX and Linux environments.
- Be able to answer questions about the objects in the database independently.
- Be able to answer questions about user security on particular databases.
WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU'LL
- Comfortably communicate with third-party vendors about the platforms you maintain.
- Be involved in discussions with upper management about disaster recovery, backup solutions, etc.
