SENIOR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

Reports to: Chief Information Officer

Hours/week: 37/.5 - In office required

Weekend Work Required: Yes

Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000

About the Hudson River Park Trust:

Hudson River Park encompasses approximately 550 total acres of property, 400 of which are within the Hudson River estuary. The balance consists of a combination of piers and upland property, incorporating both traditional passive and active public open spaces as well as limited municipal and commercial uses as authorized by the Park s enabling statute. The Park is immediately adjacent to the New York State Department of Transportation s heavily used Route 9A bikeway.

The Hudson River Park Trust ( Trust ) is a public benefit corporation established by New York State legislation in 1998 and a 501(c)(3) public charity with the mission of planning, designing, constructing and operating Hudson River Park (the Park ) along approximately four miles of Manhattan s West Side. The Information Technology ( IT ) department consists of a 4-person team, managing and supporting systems, networks, and staff throughout the organization. Staff size is approximately 100 users and fluctuates during peak seasons with an influx of seasonals, contractors, and temporary staff to accommodate the upkeep of the park and its programs.

The Trust s technology and network spans throughout the park, which is divided into 8 zones along the property. The park utilizes building management, access control, irrigation, and security systems throughout the piers and adjacent grounds, all requiring connectivity and support for their normal operations. Additionally, the IT department provides technical expertise and cooperates with internal departments and third-party providers to facilitate the technology needs for these locations.

Job Description:

The Senior System Administrator will report to the Chief Information Officer (IT) and will also work closely with other IT staff to support the maintenance, configuration and support of networks, end user and server environments. The successful candidate shall manage IT systems, projects, and tasks and help implement technology plans established by the Chief Information Officer. In addition, the Senior System Administrator may be tasked from time to time with providing project management support for other technology-based systems within the Trust. The Senior System Administrator must be able to work independently, provide support and direction to staff as well as making timely and sound decisions.

Specific Tasks & Responsibilities Include:

Network Management

  • Maintain and develop IT infrastructure across on-premise, virtual, and cloud environments
  • Fully manage and support network infrastructure including routers, load balancers, firewalls, and managed switches
  • Keep current on cybersecurity practices and solutions to secure networks and data across all networks/endpoints
  • Manage network and cloud storage to ensure system availability and resiliency

Server Management

  • Perform administrative tasks including but not limited to management of Active Directory, Azure, and Microsoft 365
  • Manage and support server infrastructure including but not limited to applications, database, and other server roles
  • Monitor server and network performance to address issues and recommend solutions for optimization and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot system and application issues across multiple environments and operating platforms

Project Management

  • Able to manage assigned projects with minimal supervision in a timely manner
  • Assist with project planning, budgeting, and procurement for technology and cross-departmental initiatives
  • Prepare scopes of work and procure solutions and services needed by department and as assigned
  • Ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple conflicting priorities simultaneously
  • Design and implement solutions to complex applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.
  • Plan and coordinate projects and tasks associated with the installation of server, network, and storage technology.

System and User Support

  • Maintain end-user support requirements including computers, printers, phones, and mobile devices
  • Provide onsite/remote support and serve as an escalation point to help desk in identifying and resolving issues
  • Develop and provide end-user support and training when necessary
  • Maintain system documentation and end-user help instructions
  • Participate in on-call support rotation in response to emergencies and willing to work scheduled evenings/weekends/holidays

Other

  • Possess excellent analytical ability with strong organizational and management skills
  • Ability to communicate and convey technical explanations to staff at all levels
  • Ability to perform CAT-5 RJ45A and RJ45B wiring and keystone punch downs, patch panel installations, cable terminations, testing and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with fiber optic connection types and hardware such as transceivers, enclosures, cassettes and cables

Education & Experience:

Must have bachelor s degree or Certificate from an accredited institution in Information Technology or other related field, or substantial documented and relevant experience. Must have a minimum of 5 years experience of which at least 3 years must include supervision and resource management.

Must be proficient in the following technologies:

  • Proficient with Azure, Microsoft 365, and Exchange Online
  • Proficient with latest Windows server and desktop operating systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Dynamics GP, Sharepoint, and SQL Server
  • Proficient with latest VMware vSphere or similar virtualization platform
  • Proficient with HPE servers and storage array systems
  • Proficient with firewalls, load balancers, and managed switches
  • Proficient with network protocols including but not limited to VPN, IP, TCP, UDP, and SMTP

Must have working knowledge in the following technologies:

  • Working knowledge of Proofpoint or similar email security solution
  • Working knowledge of IDS, IPS, EDR and cybersecurity technologies
  • Working knowledge of VoIP and Unified Messaging System is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Working knowledge of scripting and task automation

Must have familiarity with the following technologies

  • Familiarity with Citrix Endpoint Management or similar MDM solution
  • Familiarity with Ricoh, HP, and Canon MFPs and Plotters
  • Familiarity with APC power and battery management solutions
  • Familiarity with MacOS and iOS is a plus

Special Requirements:

Must have a valid driver s license. Candidates who possess Certified credentials are preferred. Must know how to troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve technical issues. Must be able to work with minimal supervision as well as being a team player. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Some direct physical labor (lifting, bending, squatting, etc.) is expected.

Compensation:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $105,000 annually, enhanced by a generous benefits package, including: Paid PTO, Health, Dental, Vision and DBL insurance, participation in the NYS Employees Retirement Pension System, Commuter Benefits, AFLAC and Flexible Spending options.
