PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Automation Engineer is a key leadership and execution role for delivering outcomes that are aligned with the Roofing Division portfolio. This role is responsible for developing and ensuring the execution of the Controls & Automation workstreams of capital projects that will reengineer and or eliminate job duties, drive future of work initiatives, and develop consistent, repeatable processes that do not require significant human interaction. Common duties will be leading the definition of new application requirements & updating existing applications based on functional requirements; providing cost/benefit tradeoff analysis to management; Prototyping, designing, integrating, and testing robotic and automation systems; deploying automation systems to the manufacturing floor and assuring effective training for operations and maintenance. This role owns the overall success for all aspects of capital projects (start to finish) and is accountable to ensure the business outcomes of the projects are realized and sustainable. A successful Automation Engineer provides leadership through efficient management of resources, synchronization of project management concepts and effective communication to all stake holders are central accountabilities to this role.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Depth

The expert on Robotics and Automation systems and concepts which will improve production methods, equipment performance, facility layout and quality of product

Design, create, develop and manage systems. Factory and process automation, design to make the systems work by themselves or require minimum human interaction

Focus will be placed on partnering with operations/technical leaders to understand and solve business needs by integrating off-the-shelf solutions or developing new solutions where no-off-the shelf technology exists

Ability to lead and execute projects in manufacturing plants

Project Leadership

Lead Advanced Manufacturing initiatives, ensuring the successful delivery of the project outcomes

Accountability for the scope, budget, resources, assumptions, communication, change management, training, testing, deployment, controls and user acceptance for the project

Facilitator of Design Safety Reviews (DSR)

Adheres to the Project Management processes and actively prepares for / participates in all reviews and stage gate deliverables

Leading and Developing Talent

Builds solid performing project teams and works with all leaders to develop and engage team members according to growth plans

Leads and engages single or cross-functional project teams, which are accountable for design, development and implementation of defined solutions

Ensures the roles and responsibilities are articulated to each team member, modified as required, and accomplished throughout the project

Discusses growth and development plans with the appropriate leaders to ensure project roles / accountabilities support the resource growth plans

Recommends and supports project-specific mentoring relationships for growth areas on the project and helps to secure the commitment of the mentor / expert

Manage Relationships with Internal & External Partners

Builds and grows external partners' capacity to augment achievement of business outcomes and provide innovative solutions to drive step change

Develops upfront communication of corporate vision, objectives and constraints

Plans and facilitates a seamless on-boarding plan for team members including project requirements, standards, testing procedures, templates, etc.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science degree, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Master's degree preferred

Five to ten years in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated technical and leadership skills

Broad background including hands on experience with PLCs/HMI, drives, robots, motion controls and associated programming software as well as technical project management.

PLC/Safety PLC/Safety Validation Programming/HMI programming/troubleshooting and support, including drives and line drive systems. (Rockwell and Siemens)

Understand the pillars and principles of Total Productive Maintenance
