Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft's cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale, enabling ~30% of Microsoft revenue through Commercial Cloud .The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. Cloud Operations + Innovation Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft, and an important pillar in its cloud success.
Within the Cloud Operations & Innovation organization, we are the Inventory and Asset Management Engineering team that builds and operates Microsoft datacenters. We own inventory systems that track inventory within the datacenters, our data and services contribute a great portion of enabling Microsoft datacenters to run smoothly. In 2023 the team is starting to extend our dataset and services to different granularities and enable more opportunities to optimize the infrastructure, processes, and business workflows. We need your help to deal with the ambiguities and design & implement the systems.

Our solutions orchestrate and coordinate with systems and processes across many teams in Microsoft - creating and driving clean APIs across them. We acknowledge that the world will never be perfect, so our systems deal with it. We are looking for a Software Engineer II with deep technical expertise who can learn fast and contribute build systems that are dynamic, highly automated, and easy to operate. We leverage Azure components including but not limited to Azure web services, Service Fabric, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Data Lake, Queues, and Azure Functions. We have a variety of synchronous and asynchronous systems working together to support planning, execution, operations, and security at hundreds of datacenters around the world.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR equivalent experience. - 2+ years of software development experience on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud or other cloud platforms.

- Experience in design and implement secure backend services in modern platforms such as ASP.NET Core on .NET and Azure, AWS, etc.
- Experience in working with SQL and No-SQL databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, MangoDB, Azure Cosmos, etc.
- Experience in containerization and microservices infrastructure such as Kubernetes, Service Fabric, etc.
- Experience in client side development using JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular JS, React, etc.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop and operate large scale, efficient and reliable cloud systems and solutions, in areas of inventory management for datacenter operations.
- Write high quality, maintainable, and high-performance code following demonstrated development principles.
- Collaborate with project managers and business stakeholders to design and deliver new features, working closely with partner teams across the org to ensure successful launches.
- Identify opportunities and drive the implementation of monitoring, self-healing, and automation capabilities to improve service manageability and reliability.
- Participate in on-call rotations (typically 24/7 for one week every 8-10 weeks) acting as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring production systems for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and taking appropriate actions to restore systems/products/services.
- Investigate and resolve customer-reported incidents, continually seeking ways to minimize or eliminate future incidents and improve customer experiences.
