Responsibilities:
- Work in a team environment to develop contract documents, including construction drawings and technical specifications
- Apply engineering principles pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents for roadways and bridges under the guidance of senior engineers
- Actively mentor and provide guidance to less experienced staff
- Progress and evaluate design details for bridge and culvert projects
- Develop contract drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Construct models and perform calculations using various software and/or hand calculations
- Review and provide Quality Control (QC) for project engineering deliverables
- Interface with other technical disciplines
- Develop cost estimates for construction documents
- Attend project meetings and participate in project site visits when required
Qualifications
- BS Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- New York State Professional Engineer (PE) required or ability to obtain
- Master of Science with a concentration in structural/bridge engineering a plus
- 5 + years of meaningful experience related to bridge engineering design
- Shall be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow professionally
- Prepare design criteria using relevant codes and standards
- Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office
- Preliminary and final design plan production experience
- Bridge load rating experience an additional benefit
- Experience with computer drafting and structural analysis software
- Familiarity with AASHTO and NYSDOT Standard Specifications
- Good writing and communication skills a plus
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
- Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
