We are developing the future of Army Aviation with the Bell Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) part of the US Army's Future Vertical Lift (FVL) modernization effort. We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation aircraft.

This position is onsite in Fort Worth.

Aircraft Software Certification Engineer (FLRAA)

Bell is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Aircraft Software Certification Engineer to join Bell's Advanced Vertical Lift Systems team and support the FLRAA Bell program.

This position will be part of a diverse team of engineers capable of executing in a fast-paced environment.

This position will deal with challenging, cutting-edge aircraft software technology and standards including multi-core processors, FACE, MOSA, IMA, agile, cyber security, MBD, MBSE, digital backbone, and many others. This position is based at Bell Textron's Ft. Worth, TX, headquarters facility.

What you'll be doing as an Aircraft Software Certification Engineer

  • Developing internal software processes for satisfying RTCA DO-178C objectives.
  • Work effectively with Bell internal teams as well as supplier teams to prepare for software certification stage of involvement (SOI) audits.
  • Primary interface with military certification authority for certifying Bell and supplier software.
  • With minimal supervision, conduct software certification SOI audits alongside military customers, Bell software quality, and other stakeholders.
  • With minimal supervision, produce SOI audit contractual artifacts for submittal to military customer (for example, job aid workbook, audit report).
  • Work effectively with Bell teams and supplier teams following SOI audits to resolve audit findings.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with other teams including system safety, quality, configuration management, systems engineering, data management, program management, and airworthiness.
  • Act as program software representative for regular customer related discussions, working groups, reviews, and future planning.
  • Evaluate Bell and supplier software data for compliance with RTCA-DO178C and related supplements, standards, and policies.
  • Apply knowledge of and provide training to other teams regarding commercial and military software certification experience.
  • Support Bell and supplier design teams in the determination of SOI audit readiness, software release readiness, software formal qualification test (FQT) readiness, safety of flight (SOF) readiness, and production transition readiness.
  • Provide support for software aspects of program gate reviews for Bell and supplier subsystems such as SRR, PDR, and CDR.
  • Provide accurate guidance to Bell engineering teams and suppliers relative to software certification topics including MCP, MBD, MBSE, tool qualification, software conformity, formal test readiness, reuse, PDS, COTS, auto-code-generation, derived requirements validation etc.

Skills You Bring To this Role:

We are looking for inquisitive and driven engineers with a passion to innovate.

Experience with current industry software languages and practices (C/C++/C#, Python, etc.).

Experience with preparing for software certification (SOI) reviews from the applicant/auditee perspective.

Experience with conducting software certification (SOI) reviews from the certification authority/auditor perspective.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Demonstrated Communication Skills needed to brief top-level management, customers and/or large groups on an occasional-to-frequent basis.

Experience with information flow between the software requirements process and the system/safety process per RTCA DO-178B/C and SAE ARP-4754A.

Experience with software tool qualification per RTCA DO-330.

Experience with software model-based development per RTCA DO-331.

What you need to be successful:

At least 5+ years' experience in a software engineering role, including requirements, design, coding, and testing per RTCA DO-178B/C.

Required Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering or science discipline.
