Unleash Your Potential!

The Guidance, Navigation, Control, and Autonomy Branch of the Leidos Innovations Center provides cutting-edge navigation for customers who can't rely on GPS alone, and we need your help in the Rocket City (Huntsville, AL).

If this sounds like an environment where you can thrive, keep reading!

This position offers both analytic and hands-on tasks, including development, simulation, analysis, and field testing of navigation algorithms. We perform research, development, and advanced prototyping for DARPA, NASA, Air Force Research Laboratory, Office of Naval Research, and Army Combat Capabilities Development Command engineering centers. These customers need to get our advanced technology into the field!

Your greatest work is ahead!

You'll work with other engineers in small teams using spiral or agile development to meet aggressive schedules aimed at near-term field demonstrations. Are you excited about making advanced technologies work in the real world? Then we want you on our team! For more information about the work we do, please visit: ;br>
Primary Responsibilities
  • Deploy novel navigation algorithms for optimal estimation and signal processing on various computing architectures for real-time fielded execution. Emphasis on alternative navigation systems including gravity and geomagnetic correlation aiding.
  • Integrate sensors and computing platforms over various electrical interfaces (e.g. RS232, RS422, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, etc)
  • Enhance navigation software frameworks with new capabilities by supporting design, coding, and peer reviews for new software modules
  • Perform code profiling and software optimization to ensure real-time execution including use of multi-threading architectures and hardware acceleration (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.)
  • Work within a team of 3-5 engineers to test algorithms on demonstration hardware.
  • Travel with the team to demonstrate systems in real-world conditions; typically lasts 1-2 weeks and occurs 3-4 times a year.

Basic Qualification:
  • Bachelor's degree in advanced technical field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent) and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or master's degree with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience programming real-time navigation software in C/C++ with additional experience in Python or MATLAB
  • Linux operating system expertise
  • Experience interfacing with navigation sensors over various interface protocols (serial, Ethernet, SPI, etc.) including time synchronization of all measurements
  • Experience with building and deploying software in container environments such as Docker
  • Experience developing navigation simulation environments including methods to accelerate execution for faster-than-real-time operations
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance after hiring

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD Degree in one of the majors listed above.
  • Experience interfacing to sensors such as inertial sensors, GPS, magnetometers, altimeters, cameras, etc.
  • Experience deploying navigation algorithms to real-time applications.
