Title: Lead/Senior Data Scientist
Location: Hybrid Temple, TX (3 days/week) | Future Austin Office
Schedule: Full-time
About the Role
We are looking for a Lead/Senior Data Scientist to join our customer’s fast-paced Data CoE team. This role will focus on high-impact projects within the finance domain, such as risk management, fraud detection, credit and lending analytics, and financial forecasting. The ideal candidate will be hands-on in developing and implementing data science strategies, optimizing machine learning models, and ensuring data-driven decision-making across the organization.
This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence 3 days a week. Candidates should be within a 50–100-mile radius of Temple, TX. A future office will open in Austin, TX.
Key Responsibilities
Lead End-to-End Data Science Initiatives: Research, design, implement, document, and communicate data science solutions from development to deployment, focusing on finance-related use cases.
Develop Advanced Models: Build and enhance machine learning, statistical, and causal models for use cases such as risk assessment, credit scoring, fraud detection, and financial forecasting.
Enterprise-Wide Solutions: Design production-grade data science frameworks and best practices for finance analytics to ensure scalability and operational excellence.
Model Optimization: Fine-tune and optimize ML models to improve accuracy and performance in financial contexts (e.g., improved credit decisions, more accurate fraud alerts).
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, and finance teams to integrate and deploy solutions that drive strategic business decisions.
Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the finance analytics space.
Data Evangelism: Educate both technical and non-technical teams on data science concepts, including machine learning and AI, to enhance financial data literacy.
Data Strategy & Enhancement: Identify data gaps, define requirements, and collaborate with engineering teams to improve data quality, tracking, and analytics specifically for finance operations.
Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with analytics and finance stakeholders to drive evidence-based decision-making, ensuring that data solutions align with key financial goals and regulatory requirements.
Communication of Insights: Present analyses, strategies, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams, translating complex data findings into actionable financial insights.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education & Experience (Option A):
MS or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field AND 3+ years of experience as a Data Scientist.
Education & Experience (Option B):
8+ years of experience as a Data Scientist in the financial services, banking, insurance, or fintech industries.
Technical Expertise:
Proven track record in building, deploying, and optimizing ML models for financial analytics (risk, fraud detection, recommendation, predictive analytics).
Strong proficiency in:
Python and ML libraries/frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
SQL and handling large-scale datasets
Cloud Platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure) and ML deployment tools (Databricks, MLflow)
Machine learning workflows, automation, and CI/CD pipelines
Soft Skills & Leadership:
Excellent communication and leadership capabilities, with a proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present to senior stakeholders.
Experience mentoring and guiding junior data scientists.
Bonus Skills:
MS Azure or Fabric experience is a plus.
