A Day in the Life
Medtronic Diabetes is looking for a Sr. Test Engineer to design, develop, document, verify and validate novel electronic test systems for battery-operated microcontroller based medical devices. These test systems are intended for both product development and manufacturing test environments.
Areas of responsibilities will include documenting test system requirements, electrical system design, circuit design, firmware design, software design, documenting the designs, and writing test plans and reports for design verification and validation. Candidates must be able to collaborate with mechanical and test automation engineers to develop the test solution. Candidates must also be willing to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Design, develop, document, verify and validate novel electronic test systems for battery-operated microcontroller based medical devices.
  • Design, develop and deploy NI LabView and TestStand Software for electronic test systems
  • Design, develop and deploy Python Software for electronic test systems
  • Design, develop and deploy custom firmware for electronic test systems
  • Design, develop and deploy custom electronics
  • Collaborate with mechanical and automation engineering
  • Research and implement state of the art technologies to optimize manufacturing throughput and lower cost
  • Implement Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) principles within the functional area
  • Support Manufacturing in troubleshooting operations involving medical devices through assembly and test
  • Provide technical assistance to other functional departments such as Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, Reliability and Manufacturing
  • Mentor and review the designs of less experienced engineers
  • Work under the guidance of a Principal level engineer and/or Engineering Manager

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors degree required in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Expertise with NI LabView and TestStand Software; NI LabView and TestStand Architect preferred
  • Expertise with Python Software
  • Experience with microcontroller firmware programming
  • Experience in custom digital and analog circuit design
  • Experience in PCBA design and documentation
  • Experience working with electrical, mechanical and automation engineers towards test system development
  • Experience with mechanical and automation design and development
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements that pertain to medical device electronic test systems
  • Experience with laboratory instruments and tools and how to control them with software (e.g. DMM, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer)
  • Experience with writing test system requirements and test plans/reports for verification and validation
  • Experience working with vendors and contract manufacturers
  • Ability to work in a team environment; strong collaboration skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$99,200.00 - $148,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
