In this role you will provide full time mechanical analytical support resources for the US ITER project office through the duration of fabrication (Title 3) phase of the Central Solenoid, Final Design of the Electron Cyclotron Heating (ECH) and Ion Cyclotron Heating (ICH) systems, and Final Design of the Port Integration and Diagnostic systems.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and alter existing FEA models

Perform FEA analysis, and other calculations to evaluate and verify design concepts related to non-conformances

Check analytical work of other project participants and participating in design reviews in systems, performing trade off studies of competing designs

Verifying US ITER designs to ITER International Office (IO) specified requirements and criteria

Advising on application of ASME and international mechanical design codes and standards and providing the detailed structural assessment of design features, support structure hardware, piping systems and handling fixtures

Perform various analyses, including linear/nonlinear structural analysis of various mechanical components

Formally document all analysis results; preparing technical reports and presenting findings at technical reviews as required

Work with technical managers, engineers, designers, and fabrication vendors to design and analyze large electro-mechanical hardware associated with the USITER project Office

Development of design details, preparation of design and analysis documents, preparation of technical specifications and statements of work, preparation of detailed analysis reports (DACS), evaluating vendor proposals, overseeing equipment fabrication including non-conformances, and preparing and delivering design reviews and job status reports.
